Job Description

The Division of Neonatology at Connecticut Children s is looking for a full-time, clinical neonatologist to work in our Norwalk and Danbury Level III NICUs.  Norwalk Hospital houses a 13-bed Level III NICU covering a delivery service of 800-1000.  Neonatologists are teamed with neonatal physician assistants and nurse practitioners to provide coverage of the NICU and Newborn Nursery following an in-house daytime and out-of-house nighttime coverage model. Danbury Hospital houses a 19-bed, single-room Level III NICU supporting a delivery service of approximately 1800.  Staffing is provided by neonatologists, physician assistants, and neonatal nurse practitioners to maintain a 24/7 in-house model.   Both units are supported virtually by Connecticut Children s subspecialists and 24/7 access to echocardiography and EEG interpretation.

SUMMARY

The Neonatologist will provide a high level of clinical excellence through providing safe, prompt, competent, collaborative, and evidence-based medical care to patients. The Neonatologist will be responsible to follow care guidelines and treatment protocols for infants with a variety of neonatal illnesses and conditions covering a broad spectrum of health issues. The Neonatologist will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team including attending, advanced practitioner staff, nursing and subspecialists to provide this care.  Additionally, the Neonatologist will be responsible to teach to a variety of learners which may include medical students and residents.

-Provide assessment of patients by obtaining a comprehensive history.
- Examines patients to obtain objective physical data and supporting information through laboratory and imaging modalities.
- Formulate a differential diagnosis and develops a reasonable treatment plan to include pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions and making appropriate referrals as indicated.
- Maintain ongoing documentation of patient interventions within the timeframe established by policy, to include documentation of initial assessment, treatment plans, progress notes and any other patient interactions, to include telephone calls.
- Collaborate with nursing, support personnel and administration in matters affecting patient care. 
- Ensure the protection of patient rights and adherence to HIPAA regulations. 
- Ensures appropriate handoff communications are accomplished.
- Responsible for teaching medical students, pediatric residents and neonatal fellows.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Education Required: M.D., or D.O. degree required
Active Scholarly Program with publication history is desirable 

LICENSE and/or CERTIFICATION REQUIRED

Active CT Physician license
Active DEA
Board eligible or certified in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine as appropriate.
